Get to Know Us

Founded in 1890, The Cavalier Daily is the independent daily news organization at the University of Virginia. We are Virginia’s oldest collegiate daily and the oldest daily newspaper in Charlottesville, Virginia. Since the summer of 1996, we have been the only daily newspaper at the University, with a print circulation of 7,500 distributed on Grounds and in the surrounding Charlottesville area, as well as a newsletter subscription of more than 6,000 individuals. The paper boasts several successful journalists and other professionals as its alumni, including Today Show host Katie Couric, New York Times CEO Meredith Levien, former University President John Casteen, New York Times columnist Jamelle Bouie, and White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield.

The Cavalier Daily is more than a newspaper — it’s a community. Joining staff means you’ll get access to exciting opportunities like internships, mentoring programs and an extensive alumni network, but it’s also a great way to meet some of your closest friends in college. We picnic on the Lawn, take trips to go apple-picking at Carter’s Mountain and so much more. We hope you consider applying to join staff!
